Program Details
The in-person MLT to MLS Bachelor of Science degree program is designed for certified Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) who want to advance their education and career opportunities by earning a Bachelor of Science degree and becoming eligible for the MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification exam through Route 2 eligibility.
To meet eligibility requirements for the MLS (ASCP) exam under Route 2, students must be certified as an MLT, obtain a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and have at least 2 years of clinical lab experience within the last 5 years. Experience must cover all areas of the lab. Ohio State’s in-person degree completion program allows students to complete the bachelor’s degree requirement in as little as two years depending on the amount of general education (GE) and prerequisite courses completed before enrolling.

Application Requirements
- GPA of 2.50 or higher
- Completion of all prerequisite courses*
- Completion of online application
- Proof of MLT Certification in good standing with ASCP
*Although completion of courses creates a stronger application, students may be admitted before completion of these courses. Courses must be completed before the Autumn semester of the second year in the professional program.
