Health Sciences Traditional Program Admissions

Applicant must meet the following minimum requirements and submit requested materials to be considered for admission.

*International deadline is one month before.

Students are highly encouraged to apply by the priority deadline to the Health Sciences program. This will help the Health Sciences division accommodate scheduling preferences and give students access to both online and on campus classes. It also assists the Health Sciences division in forecasting course demands. Applications are evaluated on a continuous basis for each term. However, it may take up to six weeks to process each application and for a decision to be made.

1. An electronic application is available from the Ohio State Professional Admissions Website.  Click on "Applications and Deadlines," then on the program of interest.  The application should be completed and submitted with all required supplemental documents, which may include a schedule of current planned courses to be completed, a personal statement, and official transcripts of each non-OSU college attended (sent directly from each institution).
2. A minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA is required in all coursework taken at all accredited institutions.  All post-secondary coursework is considered.  
3. Completion of prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the semester prior to enrollment in the professional program.  Co-requisite courses can be completed prior to starting the program or during the program.
4. A personal interview may be requested by the Division. 

Students who have completed or are in the process of completing the program prerequisites and wish to apply must have the following:

1. 2.5 cumulative GPA and
2. All of the following program prerequisite courses (6 total) or their equivalent with a C- or better by the end of the term prior to enrollment in the professional program.

• Any 3 sciences from the list below, one of which should include a lab (It is up to the student to be proactive in identifying graduate programs of interest so that they can schedule the 3 science courses accordingly.):

Effective immediately, the SHRS Student Services Office will no longer officially evaluate previous student credits. To have your transcripts officially reviewed, please follow the steps below:

Students who would like their previous education to be evaluated should complete the Pre-requisite evaluation form through OSU’s Graduate and Professional Admissions Office.  For more information visit their website HERE.

The Health Sciences program in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences offers direct admission to students that are participating in Ohio State’s Honors or Scholars program. These students DO NOT have to complete the application process. Once admitted, students must complete all prerequisite coursework with a C- or higher prior to starting the professional coursework.

Students who wish to be directly admitted into the Health Sciences program must meet BOTH of the following criteria:

1. First* or Second year students who are active in University Honors or Scholars program
2. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

*First year students will need to meet with an HRS Academic Advisor to declare interest in Health Sciences direct admission.  At the end of the first year these students will receive an email to opt-in to the direct admission program if they are ready to officially switch their major.  Please see an HRS Academic Advisor for more information.

The Health Sciences Program requires the completion of a minor to allow students to explore other areas of academic interests.  Most minors consist of 12+ credit hours, and can sometimes overlap with a GE course. Associate degree students are not required to complete a minor.

Ohio’s Credit When It’s Due initiative was created to assist eligible students to obtain an Associate Degree through Ohio’s public institutions.  Students can earn this degree while working towards a bachelor’s degree or by working with a previously attended 2 year college.  Students should contact any previously attended institution to learn more.

An Associate Degree is not required to start in the Health Sciences Program.  However, students who hold an Associate Degree that are part of the Health Sciences program will be able to waive coursework required by the program.  This will shorten the time to graduation.  Please visit the above websites or speak to your academic advisor for more information.
