The Ohio State University School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (HRS) recently celebrated 647 learners from the Class of 2025, marking its largest graduating class in the school’s history for the fourth consecutive year.
This class included the first graduates of the Master of Athletic Training program and the final cohort to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. It also set a new high with 10 students earning Research Distinction.
Interim Director Jimmy Oñate, PhD, AT, ATC, opened the annual Pre-Commencment Ceremony by acknowledging the extraordinary effort behind each student’s achievement.
“Today marks not just an academic milestone, but a celebration of your resilience, your dedication and your unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of others,” he said.
He also reminded graduates of the unique position they now hold. “You are entering professions that demand both heart and skill,” he said. “Your journey here has prepared you to meet that challenge with compassion and excellence.”
A wide range of interests and accomplishments were honored during the annual ceremony.
Here’s a look at the 2025 class:
- 512 undergraduate degrees
- 135 graduate degrees
- 50 certificates
- 311 graduates receiving Latinate honors
- 150 first generation graduates
- 15 Award of Merit recipients
- 8 graduates with Honors Distinction
- 10 graduates with Research Distinction
- 10 student-athletes
Dr. Oñate closed the ceremony with words of encouragement, emphasizing the power each graduate holds as they step into their careers. “You have excellent training,” he said. “You are knowledgeable in everything you need to do. Don’t forget that.”
He added: “Never underestimate the power of your voice, your knowledge and your presence. The world needs your leadership now more than ever.”
The Ohio State University School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is one of the nation’s largest educators of health care professionals, with over 18,000 graduates making a global impact on health care. The school offers 23 academic programs, many of which are ranked in the top 10 nationally for their academic achievements and student outcomes.
