In response to the great care he received, Rick and Terri wanted to do more to further Parkinson’s disease care and research.

Shortly after Rick’s diagnosis, they started the Myser Family Fund for Parkinson’s Research at Ohio State. The goal of this fund is to provide crucial funding for the disease in order to ultimately find a cure.

In addition to supporting the fund themselves, Rick and Terri actively engaged their friends and family to get involved and support the fund. This summer, they hosted “Shake Parkinson’s Now” – a small gathering of close friends and family. They sold t-shirts promoting their fund, provided educational material and poked fun at the disease by having a group sing-a-long to “Parkinsonaville”, sung to the tune of “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffet.

It is the family's hope that by having a positive and somewhat funny outlook on the disease, they can motivate their friends and family to advocate and spread awareness to ultimately raise more support and funds for Parkinson's disease research.
