If you have an upcoming appointment, you may be hearing directly from your doctor’s office to reschedule your appointment as a video visit. If an in-person visit is required, appointments will remain scheduled as-is, and we’ll continue to take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety. Learn more

See your doctor without leaving the house

With video visits, you can easily receive treatment for many conditions from your Ohio State health care provider remotely.  Instead of coming into the office for your appointment, you stay at your home or office and use your smartphone, tablet or computer to see and talk to your doctor. During your video visit, your doctor can perform many of the same tasks for you as they would for an in-person visit, including prescribing medication.

How to schedule a video visit

Video visits are scheduled much like office visits and are available to both new and existing patients, with or without a MyChart account.

  • Contact your doctor’s office to see if this type of telehealth care is right for your health concerns. If you have an existing appointment that is appropriate for a video visit, your provider may contact you directly to reschedule.
  • Don’t have a provider? Simply call 614-366-5555 and our appointment specialists can help you schedule.

Tips for a successful video visit

You’ll receive instructions about your specific appointment from your provider, including what technology will be used during the telehealth appointment. This may be MyHealth, Updox, or another common online video platform. Review these details in advance, follow any prompts to check in ahead of your appointment time and note these additional preparation tips:

  • Plan where you’ll be at the appointment time in a relatively quiet, private, well-lit location
  • Have your insurance card and a list of any current medications ready
  • Make sure you have a strong Wi-Fi signal
  • Confirm that your device is fully charged and that it can be stabilized on a stationary object
  • Join your video visit at least five minutes ahead of your appointment time

Does my insurance plan cover telehealth?

As of 4/1/2020 the following insurance plans pay for video visits: Aetna, Anthem, Buckeye, CareSource, Cigna Behavioral Health, Medical Mutual of Ohio, Molina, OSU Health Plan, Paramount, United Behavioral Health, United Health Care, Medicare and all the Medicaid insurance plans. Cigna Medical is not currently covering video visits. You are responsible for your insurance plan co-pay. If you are unsure of your coverage, contact your insurance plan.

If you don’t have one of these insurance plans, the typical $49.99 pre-payment has been temporarily waived and and you will be billed after your visit.
