Admissions at Dodd Hall

How can you access outpatient rehabilitative care:

  • Ask your physician for a referral or a prescription for therapy. (Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy)
  • Choose one of our 3 convenient outpatient rehabilitation facilities (shown below).
  • Call 614-293-4523 for any questions or assistance.
  • Admission Criteria for Outpatient Therapy is:
    • You have had an illness, injury, or recurrence of a disease process that has impacted your function
    • You are Medically and Neurologically stable
    • You are Able to actively participate in therapy sessions
    • If you require mechanical ventilator assistance then you must have an identified caregiver available at all times during appointments. Your caregiver is responsible for providing any support and managing all aspects of the ventilator.
  • Discharge Criteria for Outpatient Therapy is:
    • Your condition has become medically unstable
    • You present with contraindications to the delivery of therapy, and/or warrant referral to another health care provider.
    • Demonstrate no or poor potential for further improvement with utilization of a therapy regimen.
    • All subjective, objective, and/or functional goals, as set at initial admission/evaluation, have been achieved.  This may include demonstration of independence with continued home exercise program.
    • Requests or agree to termination of therapy services.
    • Discontinues attending therapy appointments.
    • Any other variable(s), including behavior or compliance, deemed by the treating clinician and/or supervisory staff that prohibit continuation of care.

Research

Ohio State's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation conducts rehabilitation research on topics that are highly relevant to the lives of the patients we serve. We constantly strive to improve our rehabilitation methods by developing and evaluating new assessment tools and interventions.

Feedback from patients and the Ohio Valley Center Advisory Council is used to direct our research efforts to areas considered to be most important by our consumers. To this end, the department has developed lines of research targeting traumatic brain injury and motion disorders.
