Our Hepatology program, under the leadership of Dr. James Hanje, includes the outpatient hepatology clinics and inpatient hepatology service. Our inpatient service provides continuous, sub-specialized care in advanced liver disease, and is staffed 365 days a year by specialists trained in transplant hepatology. The Hepatology program works in close coordination with our Liver Transplant program, under the guidance of our medical director of liver transplant, Tony Michaels.
Together, these services provide seamless care in both the outpatient and inpatient realms and work in close collaboration with our Comprehensive Transplant Center. We help patients manage their liver disease throughout the spectrum from initial presentation, to pre-transplant evaluation to get on the waiting list, through surgery and then in long term follow up in our post-transplant clinics.
All surgical procedures and immediate postoperative care in specialized surgical units are managed by the transplant surgical team. In addition, a transplant pharmacist with expertise in immunosuppressive drugs provides pharmaceutical support and consultation to all inpatients.
