Chancellor and CEO Harold Paz

Harold L. Paz, MD, MS

Dr. Harold L. Paz is executive vice president and chancellor for health affairs at The Ohio State University and chief executive officer of the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. At Ohio State, Dr. Paz leads all seven health science colleges and serves as CEO of the $4 billion Wexner Medical Center enterprise, which includes seven hospitals, a nationally ranked college of medicine, more than 20 research institutes, multiple ambulatory sites, an accountable care organization and a health plan.

Before joining Ohio State in June 2019, Dr. Paz was executive vice president and chief medical officer at Aetna, where he led clinical strategy and policy at the intersection of all of Aetna’s domestic and global businesses. He reported to Aetna’s chairman and CEO and was a member of its executive committee. Prior to joining Aetna in 2014, Dr. Paz served as president and CEO of the Penn State Hershey Health System, senior vice president for health affairs at the Pennsylvania State University and dean of its College of Medicine for eight years. Before his appointment at Penn State, he spent 11 years as dean of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Group.

Dr. Paz received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, a master of science in life science engineering from Tufts University and his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed his residency at Northwestern University, where he served as chief medical resident. Dr. Paz was a Eudowood Fellow in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical School. In addition, he was a postdoctoral fellow in environmental health science at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

David McQuaid serves as chief executive officer of the Ohio State Health System and chief operating officer of the Wexner Medical Center. A leading national authority on tumor heterogeneity, biomarkers of response and targeted therapies for head and neck cancers, Dr. Rocco was recruited to Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in 2015 to serve as director of the Division of Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery, medical director of the Head and Neck Service Line and director of the Head and Neck Disease Specific Research Group. He holds the Mary E. and John W. Alford Cancer Chair of Research in Head and Neck Cancer. In 2017, Dr. Rocco was named chair of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Ohio State.

Dr. William Farrar is a surgical oncologist who was appointed CEO of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in August 2019. He also serves as medical director of the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center and director of medical credentialing at The James. On The James medical staff since the hospital opened in 1990, Dr. Farrar is in the Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention Program at the OSUCCC. He was rated among the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction in 2017, and is a 16-time recipient of the “Best Doctors in America” honor.

Dr. Raphael Pollock is an internationally renowned cancer surgeon with more than three decades of experience as a research scientist. He joined the Department of Surgery at Ohio State in 2013 after being recruited from MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he had worked for 31 years. At Ohio State he has held several important positions, including vice chair for clinical affairs in the Department of Surgery, director of the Division of Surgical Oncology, director of the Sarcoma Research Laboratory, surgeon-in-chief for the OSUCCC and surgeon-in-chief for The Ohio State University Health Care System.
