Sommerich, Carolyn

Biography

Greetings!  I am a Professor in the Department of Integrated Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University.  I also hold graduate faculty status in OSU’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences within OSU’s College of Medicine.  I am a Fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and currently serve as the Immediate Past President of HFES.

Expertise

I am the director of the OSU Engineering Laboratory for Human Factors/Ergonomics/Safety.  I am also the Director of OSU’s NIOSH-sponsored Training Project Grant in Occupational Safety and Ergonomics.

My research focus is ergonomics and occupational biomechanics, with a special interest in intervention research to reduce exposures to risk factors for musculoskeletal discomfort and disorders; application sectors include healthcare, industry, and education.  My research approach is participatory and interdisciplinary.  To learn more about my research, the courses I teach, and more please visit my webpage.
